It’s been a challenging first year for Crockers Henley, but our talented and dedicated team have continued to ‘pull out all the stops’ to deliver an amazing experience for our guests. We couldn’t be prouder of what they have achieved in such a short period of time. Now, we’re obviously biased, so we thought we’d leave it to others to do the talking. Here’s a round-up of some of our favourite reviews from 2021....
“There are some places you visit that make reviewing a true joy. These are destinations where you can’t wait to tell everyone about how great it was because you can see how much it means to the people responsible for the good food and service. Crockers Henley is one such place. From the moment we walked through the doors to the minute we begrudgingly left, everything was wonderful”
Molly Codyre, The Independent
“In this gastronomic playground for adults, you can expect one of those meals you don't forget - and not just for the food. Setting this apart from other tasting experiences, the quick-to-smile staff - as friendly as they are skilled - are equal stars of the show”
India Dowley - Suitcase Magazine
“Our evening at Crockers ended in a standing ovation from the diners; pretty much unheard of for a meal out, but in this case, well deserved”
Rebecca Cox, Country & Town House
“9/10 - Crockers brings fun, flair and seriously good food to the hallowed setting of Henley-on-Thames. There are actually four Crockers in one: the Grill, a casual dining room with a specially commissioned robatayaki charcoal grill; the Thames chef’s table and the Gardiner chef’s table – two 16-seater counters serving modern British and pan-Asian food respectively; and the Quarters, one of the best sets of rooms attached to a restaurant in the country. Often these are an afterthought, squeezed into the corner of an old barn and acceptable for a night when you’ve had an epic wine pairing and can’t drive. But I’d stay in a room here for a week”
Mark C. O’Flaherty, The Telegraph
“Best new UK restaurants - In a prime spot off the leafy market square of Henley-on-Thames, a converted Georgian townhouse hosts a food lover’s hideaway. Venture through the sophisticated The Grill restaurant to the back of the building, where two elegant chef’s table dining rooms host intricate, interactive dinners. In The Thames room, sit on velvet stools, strategically placed around a sparkling open kitchen, and watch chefs pipe cheese into gougères, pincer peanuts onto passion fruit chocolate desserts, and sprinkle puffed rice onto sizzling duck breasts”
Alex Crossley, Olive Magazine
“Henley-on-Thames should be your first post-lockdown gastro getaway [...] It was three hours of food theatre, after which we winched ourselves upstairs, spoiled and smiling. The rooms are smart, with high beams and roll-top baths alongside the beds and charming views of the square. You can work off the calories on a glorious five-mile loop of a walk that takes you up the river past handsome rowing clubs and Temple Island’s neoclassical folly before heading back through the Chiltern Hills. Best of all? It’s only an hour from Paddington.“
David Annand, GQ Magazine
“Finally as you push the doors into one of the two chef’s table spaces, it gets a bit tingly and exciting with 16 elegant velvet chairs on three sides of a brushed metal table, with views onto the open kitchen. It’s like entering a theatre – it felt like an intention to have an experience, not just a meal which I love and there is much made of the idea of fine dining without the pretension here. I dressed up a bit because it’s been so long since I last went out somewhere special but you’d be just as welcome in jeans.“
Hero Brown, Muddy Stilettos
Thank you to everyone who has supported Crockers Henley during its first rocky year. We have much to do, and with lots of exciting plans in the pipeline, we’ve only just started. Cheers!
